Entry and exit across the state border between Azerbaijan and Iran for cargo transportation have been restored as of the morning of March 9.
The movement of all types of vehicles transporting goods, including transit shipments, has resumed, APA reported, citing Azerbaijan’s Cabinet of Ministers press service.
Under decision No. 66 of March 5, 2026 by Azerbaijan’s Cabinet of Ministers, cargo transportation across the Azerbaijan–Iran border had been suspended for all types of vehicles, including transit transport. The measure followed drone strikes launched from Iran targeting Nakhichevan airport.
“Azerbaijan Airlines” (AZAL) has also resumed direct flights between the cities of Baku and Nakhchivan starting March 9, the airline’s press service said.
From March 10, flights to Nakhichevan will operate on a regular schedule.
“AZAL continues to closely monitor the current situation and is taking all necessary measures to ensure flight safety. Passengers will be promptly informed about any changes to the schedule,” the airline said in a statement.
Earlier, it was reported that Iran carried out drone strikes on Nakhchivan airport. Several other unmanned aerial vehicles fell in other areas. Later it was reported that one of the drones crashed near a school. Iran’s ambassador in Baku, Mojtaba Demirchilou, was summoned to Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry and handed a note of protest.
