UN says over 3 million displaced in Iran war

Up to 3.2 million people in Iran have been forced to leave their homes following Israeli and U.S. attacks, according to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).

Between 600,000 and one million households have been temporarily displaced within the country due to the conflict, the report said, according to Interfax.

«The conflict has led to the temporary displacement of between 600,000 and one million households inside the country, which corresponds to 3.2 million people», the report said.

Most of the displaced have left Tehran and other major cities, moving toward the country’s northern regions and rural areas.

«This figure is likely to continue rising as military operations persist», the agency said in a statement.

On February 28, Israel and the United States carried out airstrikes on Iran, during which Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed. Iran responded with strikes toward Israel and Gulf countries hosting U.S. military bases.
