MFA updates number of Armenians stranded in Asia

Following the cancellation or delay of transit flights through the Middle East, Armenian diplomatic missions have provided updated data on Armenian citizens currently in several Asian countries, Armenia’s Foreign Ministry said.

According to the ministry, 20 Armenian citizens are in India, while another 12 are in Sri Lanka and plan to depart at a later time. Armenia’s embassy in New Delhi has received a small number of calls, mainly related to requests for information.

In Thailand, 20 Armenian citizens are currently staying. Five of them already had airline tickets and planned to leave in the coming days. The remaining citizens have not yet indicated plans to depart in the near future.

Three Armenian citizens are currently in Vietnam.

Armenian citizens in Thailand (served by the embassy based in Beijing) and Vietnam have asked Armenian diplomatic missions to extend their visa validity. The embassies have taken the necessary steps to address those issues.

On February 28, Israel and the U.S. carried out airstrikes against Iran, killing Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Iran responded with strikes against Israel and Gulf states hosting U.S. military bases.
