Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has sent a congratulatory message to the President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, on the successful conduct of the constitutional referendum.
“Please accept my sincere congratulations on the successful holding of the constitutional referendum, which is a fundamental step toward building the ‘Just Kazakhstan’ you have proclaimed. The results of the nationwide vote once again demonstrated the responsible attitude of the citizens of the Republic of Kazakhstan toward ensuring the country’s independence and sovereignty under the rule of law, as well as toward building a prosperous and modern society.
I am deeply convinced that the constitutional reforms in Kazakhstan will give new momentum to the interstate strategic partnership between Yerevan and Astana, to the benefit of strengthening friendship between our peoples. I sincerely wish you further success in your state activities, as well as good health and prosperity,” the message reads.
Kazakhstan’s newly adopted constitution strengthens presidential authority, transforms parliament into a unicameral body, and defines marriage as a “union between a man and a woman.” Although only certain amendments had initially been expected, more than 80 percent of the constitution has ultimately been revised.
