
Armenia will take part in the funeral of Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia Ilia II at the highest level, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated during a government briefing, according to «1lurer.am».
“I intend to call the Prime Minister of Georgia to personally express condolences, and we are discussing the format of our participation,” he said.
The Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin’s press office reported that no official notification has yet been received regarding the organizational details of the funeral of the late Ilia II.
“When such information is received, the format of the Armenian Church’s participation in the ceremonies will be determined in accordance with the protocol set by the Georgian Orthodox Church,” the statement said.
The Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia, Ilia II, died at the age of 93 in a Tbilisi clinic. He had led the Georgian Church since 1977, passing away 49 years after ascending the patriarchal throne.
