Armenia reports steps toward EU visa-free regime

At the fifth meeting of the Armenia–EU Parliamentary Partnership Committee held on March 19, discussions focused on the new agenda of cooperation between Armenia and the European Union. Progress in the visa liberalization process was also presented, including developments in short-term visa issuance and related infrastructure programs.

Deputy Interior Minister Armen Ghazaryan outlined the key stages of the visa liberalization process, from the launch of dialogue to the receipt of the Action Plan and the steps being taken for its implementation. He also addressed the content of the plan provided to the Armenian side, emphasizing the established benchmarks and the legislative and institutional reforms being carried out to meet them.

It was noted that programs aimed at enhancing document security have played an important role, implemented through public-private partnerships. At the same time, efforts were presented on developing comprehensive migration and border management strategies, as well as on the digitalization of the asylum system.

Within the framework of reforms in the law enforcement system, Ghazaryan stated that the changes are aimed not only at restructuring institutions but also at introducing modern standards in police operations.

The deputy minister stressed that the Ministry of Internal Affairs has adopted a systematic approach to effectively implement the visa liberalization action plan.
