Families seek answers on 44-day war findings

Public and political figures, along with relatives of servicemen missing from the 44-day war, gathered outside Armenia’s National Assembly demanding the publication of the investigative commission’s report on the war.

Participants said they have waited for years for answers but have yet to receive clear information about the causes of the war and those responsible. Their demand is to release the full report and reveal what happened, Sputnik Armenia reports.

Public figure Gevorg Gevorgyan stated that authorities had withheld information for years, classifying it as secret.

“This government has not disclosed what it did not want to, hiding it under ‘top secrecy’. For 4–5 years, they said the commission would shed light on everything, that there would be court rulings and arrests, but then suddenly everyone fell silent. Society must know who is responsible for the war, especially as the country faces new elections,” he said.

According to him, the public must be informed to make conscious decisions. Protesters said they would continue their actions until the full report is published and responsibility clarified.

Those gathered signed letters to be submitted to parliamentary factions and announced they would continue to assemble daily at 15:00 outside parliament.

Arsen Ghukasyan, brother of fallen soldier Arman Ghukasyan and uncle of missing serviceman Sargis Ghukasyan, said: “We waited years for the conclusion because we were promised that once it was ready, we would know all those responsible and they would be punished. Then we learned the report was archived and classified. What does that mean?” Panorama.am reports.

He stressed that they have already been waiting six years to learn who is responsible for the deaths of their relatives.

“I want to know who is to blame for my brother’s death. I want to know who created that chaos. The soldier was not responsible — the commanders were. Over these years, we have not received answers,” he said.

He added that he does not want war, having personally suffered its consequences, but would be ready to fight if faced with such a choice.

“They are again frightening us with war. I do not want war — I lost two family members. But if faced with a choice — to die with a weapon in hand or to stay home while the enemy comes and kills your family — I would rather die with a weapon,” Ghukasyan said.

Parliament Speaker Alen Simonyan stated on October 1 that the report of the investigative commission on the 44-day war was not included in the plenary agenda due to missed deadlines, though alternative formats were discussed. On October 6, it became known that the report would not be published and would instead be archived in parliament as a classified document.
