
Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze welcomed the ongoing peace process between Armenia and Azerbaijan during a meeting with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, who is on an official visit to Georgia.
“We would like once again to welcome the peace process between Armenia and Azerbaijan. Georgia firmly supports peaceful coexistence, constructive cooperation, and new initiatives in the region. If necessary, we are ready to make a positive contribution to the development of these relations. We are ready to facilitate dialogue and the peace process,” Kobakhidze said, Armenpress reports.
The Georgian prime minister also stressed that cooperation among South Caucasus countries creates new opportunities for the entire region.
“We are witnessing global political changes, and these changes further strengthen the importance of the Middle Corridor, including the Black Sea and the South Caucasus as a strategic area,” he noted.
Earlier, on August 8, a trilateral meeting was held at the White House between Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, U.S. President Donald Trump, and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, during which a joint declaration was signed summarizing the outcomes.
Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan and Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov, in the presence of their countries’ leaders and the U.S. president, initialed the agreement “On peace and the establishment of interstate relations between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan.”
