Russia’s CEC chief invited to Armenia

Armenia has invited Russian Central Election Commission Chair Ella Pamfilova to visit Yerevan, said Armenia’s CEC head Vahagn Hovakimyan.

The issue was discussed during a recent meeting between Hovakimyan and Russian Ambassador Sergey Kopyrkin, Sputnik Armenia reports.

Hovakimyan noted that the meeting had been planned in advance and was not related to Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s recent visit to Moscow.

Kopyrkin visited the Central Election Commission to ознакомиться с preparations for upcoming elections and to discuss organizational matters related to Pamfilova’s possible visit.

Hovakimyan also said that during a previous meeting, Pamfilova had invited him to observe Russia’s State Duma elections in September, and he, in turn, extended an invitation for her to visit Armenia.

Parliamentary elections in Armenia are scheduled for June 7, 2026.

Several political forces have already announced plans to participate in the elections, including former President Robert Kocharyan, former Yerevan mayor Hayk Marutyan with the New Force party, the Armenian National Congress led by Levon Zurabyan, and the Republic Party headed by Aram Sargsyan. The ruling Civil Contract party has nominated Nikol Pashinyan as its prime ministerial candidate.
