The Armenian government plans to subsidize fertilizer prices to support farmers amid rising costs and safeguard agricultural output.

According to a draft developed by the Ministry of Economy, nitrogen fertilizer prices have recently increased significantly, in some cases by around 3,000 drams, largely due to global market trends and import-related challenges.

Russia, Iran, and Georgia remain the main supplier countries, as reported by Factor.am.

To implement the program, approximately 900 million drams will be allocated from the 2026 state budget.

Authorities warn that the current situation could negatively affect agriculture, potentially leading to reduced yields and declining soil fertility if fertilizer use decreases.

Under the program, each beneficiary will be eligible for support covering up to 30 hectares of land.

The state will subsidize the cost of a 50 kg bag of fertilizer by up to 3,000 drams from the market price, with a baseline price set at 8,000 drams.

Fertilizers will be sold exclusively through suppliers approved by the ministry, who will also bear responsibility for product quality.

Distribution and accounting processes will be carried out by local authorities with proper documentation.

The government expects the initiative to enhance agricultural productivity and promote more efficient land use.
