Yerevan Bus paid millions extra for diesel, official says

Yerevan Bus CJSC purchased a large volume of diesel fuel at a price significantly higher than market rates and “paid 60 million drams extra, causing that amount of damage to the city,” Mesrop Manukyan, member of the Mother Armenia faction in Yerevan City Council and parliamentary candidate from the Hayastan alliance, said in a video statement posted on Facebook.

According to him, on May 6, the company purchased 500,000 liters of diesel fuel through a sole-source procurement procedure at a price of 545 drams per liter, while diesel at gas stations in Yerevan currently costs between 510 and 520 drams per liter.

He stated that, as the head of a company that purchases both diesel and gasoline, he can assert that bulk purchases can be made at an additional 15-20% discount.

“It turns out these people purchased one liter about 120 drams more expensively. Through this single transaction alone, Yerevan city suffers approximately 60 million drams in damage, or they are ‘stealing’ 60 million drams,” Manukyan said.

Manukyan said he has appealed to law enforcement agencies.
