Armenia presents stance on energy risks at ECOSOC

Armenia’s Permanent Representative to the U.N., Ambassador Paruyr Hovhannisyan, addressed a special session of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) titled “Ensuring the Protection of Energy and Supply Flows,” dedicated to the impact of growing instability in international trade, energy and supply chains on global development.

Hovhannisyan reaffirmed Armenia’s vital interest in ensuring peace and stability in the region, stressing the urgent need for de-escalation, diplomacy and full respect for international humanitarian law, while also addressing the broader impact of regional crises on global trade, connectivity and economic stability.

Presenting Armenia’s position as a landlocked country, he emphasized that disruptions to transit routes, rising fuel and energy prices, and deepening economic uncertainty have a disproportionate impact on countries with structural vulnerabilities.

He called for expanded international cooperation to strengthen the resilience and predictability of supply chains, ensure diversification of transport and energy routes, and provide timely and accessible international financial support to developing countries.
