Pashinyan announces plans for Ararat Cement takeover

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said that the Ararat Cement plant, which he described as the “business backbone” of Prosperous Armenia Party leader Gagik Tsarukyan, will soon become state property. He made the statement during a meeting in Shnogh village, according to Factor.am .

“That Guloyan-Tsarukyan mafia still has to face its reckoning. Just as I promised you in 2021 that there would be processes related to the Zangezur Copper-Molybdenum Combine, now I am telling you directly that very soon Tsarukyan’s business backbone — the Ararat Cement plant — will become state-owned and belong to the Republic of Armenia.

“Because the machinations of that Guloyan-Tsarukyan mafia have been exposed, and the Armenian government has already received a letter from the prosecutor’s office stating that the property is subject to nationalization. And in the near future, very quickly, just as we appointed a manager at the Electric Networks of Armenia, we will also appoint a manager at Ararat Cement,” Pashinyan said.

The prime minister added that he “congratulates all employees of the Ararat Cement plant on their liberation.”

The election campaign that began on May 8 will continue until June 5. June 6 will be observed as a day of silence, and elections will be held on June 7.
