Minister calls the Russian flower issue manageable

The Armenian government has not received any official communication from Russia’s Rosselkhoznadzor regarding temporary restrictions on flower exports from Armenia, Economy Minister Gevorg Papoyan said after a government meeting while answering journalists’ questions.

Earlier, it became known that Rosselkhoznadzor planned to introduce temporary restrictions starting May 22, 2026, on the import of flower products supplied from Armenia.

“We have not received an official letter, therefore, we cannot comment. Specialists from Rosselkhoznadzor are in Armenia conducting inspections at specific companies. These are the companies whose access to the Russian market has been banned, and if the inspections produce positive conclusions, export opportunities for them will be reopened,” the minister said, according to Sputnik Armenia.

Papoyan described the developments as routine working situations. He did not rule out the possibility that certain forces in Armenia were trying to create conditions that would cause Armenian producers to face difficulties in Russia.

“We periodically receive such information, but at the same time, we manage to resolve those issues,” the minister said.

According to him, the situation remains manageable, and active work with Russian partners is ongoing.

“By and large, we will not face problems,” the minister said.

Papoyan also stated that Armenia has diversified its export destinations in recent years to avoid dependence on any single market. In that context, he noted that export volumes to China and the European Union had already doubled last year. Negotiations are currently underway to export roses to the EU market.
