On May 28, a special Republic Day prayer service was held at the Mother Cathedral of Holy Etchmiadzin under the leadership of Catholicos of All Armenians Karekin II.

Clergy members and worshippers gathered to pray for the stability of the Republic of Armenia, as well as for peaceful and secure life in the country.

Earlier, the Catholicos visited the Sardarapat memorial complex accompanied by members of the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin.

After laying a wreath at the memorial, the clergy led by the Armenian Patriarch offered prayers for the souls of Armenian fighters who were killed in the May battles.

On May 28, 1918, the Armenian National Council declared the establishment of the independent Republic of Armenia. Just three years after genocide and mass displacement, the Armenian people managed to organize, wage self-defense battles, achieve victory and establish statehood.
