RA food safety authority begins talks with Russia

Armenia’s Food Safety Inspection Body (FSIB) has officially received notification of the restrictions imposed by Russia, according to FSIB spokesperson Anush Harutyunyan, as cited by Sputnik Armenia.

On May 28, Russia’s Rosselkhoznadzor announced that it would restrict imports of fruits and vegetables from Armenia starting May 30. The agency stated that agricultural products exported from Armenia had recently failed to meet Russian requirements.

“The head of the inspection body has already begun negotiations. We will determine where the problem lies and then try to implement the necessary corrective measures,” Harutyunyan said.

According to her, the results of the discussions are expected to be made public in the near future.

Rosselkhoznadzor also temporarily restricted imports of flowers from Armenia starting May 22. On May 15, it became known that the Russian agency planned inspections at several Armenian enterprises, including companies whose exports to Russia had previously been suspended. The inspections were linked to suspicions regarding the import of allegedly falsified fish products believed to be of European origin. On May 24, the Armenian side announced that Rosselkhoznadzor had completed its inspections of Armenian enterprises.
