
Armenia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Paruyr Hovhannisyan, reaffirmed Armenia’s commitment to the fundamental principles of the UN Charter during an open debate of the UN Security Council, emphasizing respect for territorial integrity, political independence and the peaceful settlement of disputes.
He also presented the draft resolution “Education for Peace,” initiated by Armenia and aimed at strengthening peaceful and inclusive societies. The information was provided by Armenia’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations.
In his remarks, the permanent representative stressed that amid growing geopolitical tensions and declining trust, it is essential to reaffirm commitment to the core principles of the UN Charter, including sovereign equality, respect for the territorial integrity and political independence of states, the non-use of force or the threat of force, and the peaceful resolution of disputes through dialogue, mediation and diplomacy.
Addressing the need to advance preventive diplomacy, Ambassador Hovhannisyan underlined Armenia’s view that education for peace plays a vital role in fostering mutual understanding, respect, tolerance and the protection of human rights, while also helping combat violence, xenophobia and hatred.
It was noted that Armenia has initiated and submitted a draft resolution of the UN General Assembly entitled “Education for Peace,” aimed at bringing together international efforts to unlock the full potential of education in strengthening peaceful, just and inclusive societies.
