
Former Armenian Minister of Transport and Communications Gagik Beglaryan has been detained, and a motion seeking his pre-trial detention has been submitted to the court.
The information was confirmed by Armenia’s Anti-Corruption Committee, according to Factor.am .
According to the committee, Beglaryan was detained within the framework of a criminal proceeding being investigated by the Anti-Corruption Committee. He is alleged to have committed acts bearing the characteristics of abuse of official authority and money laundering on an especially large scale.
The committee stated that a petition has been filed with the court requesting that detention be imposed as a preventive measure.
Earlier, the Prosecutor General’s Office reported that since the launch of the regular parliamentary election process, prosecutors have referred 13 criminal cases involving election-related offenses and 40 individuals to the competent courts with approved indictments.
