Five individuals have been detained as part of a criminal investigation into alleged vote-buying and vote-selling, with two of them placed in pre-trial detention.
According to Armenia’s Anti-Corruption Committee and the National Security Service of Armenia, investigative measures uncovered information suggesting that individuals appointed as responsible persons at the Strong Armenia Party office in Yerevan’s Kanaker-Zeytun administrative district, acting in prior agreement with party supporters and a group of cooperating individuals, allegedly promised and distributed election bribes to voters.
A criminal proceeding was initiated by the Anti-Corruption Committee in connection with the case.
Within the framework of the investigation, several individuals were detained, searches were carried out, and other investigative and procedural actions were conducted.
The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
The election campaign, which began on May 8, continued through June 5. June 6 is a day of silence, and parliamentary elections will be held on June 7. On May 25, the Alliance Progressive Centrist Party submitted a withdrawal request, after which the Central Electoral Commission invalidated the registration of the party’s electoral list. As a result, there will be no ballot paper numbered 13 in the upcoming elections.
