According to Euractiv, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan is engaged in discussions regarding the possible membership of the Civil Contract party in the European People's Party (EPP).
According to the publication, no final decision has yet been made. However, Pashinyan has already expressed interest, and the European political family could approve Civil Contract’s membership by the end of the year, Radar Armenia reported.
The report notes that the process follows Pashinyan’s victory in the National Assembly elections, which took place amid statements alleging Russian interference.
Euractiv also wrote that while Armenia’s authorities continue to demonstrate a clear tendency to distance themselves from Russian influence, they simultaneously avoid presenting the country’s foreign policy direction as a stark choice between Brussels and Moscow.
According to the publication, observers are also awaiting the moment when Armenia submits an official application for European Union candidate status.
According to preliminary results of Armenia’s National Assembly elections, the vote distribution was as follows: Civil Contract – 49.825%, Strong Armenia – 23.281%, Hayastan Alliance – 9.934%, Prosperous Armenia – 3.996%. Under the updated figures, Prosperous Armenia has not cleared the 4% threshold required for political parties, although the party has requested recounts in several polling stations.
