Russia prefers to wait for the official results of Armenia’s parliamentary elections before sending any congratulatory messages, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has said.
“It is important to wait for some final official results. You know that there have been many unclear moments. We have seen numerous reports about violations during the elections. Therefore, we prefer to wait for the official conclusion,” Peskov said, according to RIA Novosti.
He was responding to a question about whether Russian President Vladimir Putin intends to congratulate Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan on his election victory.
According to preliminary election results, the vote distribution was as follows: Civil Contract – 49.825%, Strong Armenia – 23.281%, Hayastan Alliance – 9.934%, Prosperous Armenia – 3.996%. Under the updated figures, Prosperous Armenia has not cleared the 4% threshold required for political parties, although the party has requested recounts at several polling stations.
