During a meeting chaired by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, participants discussed the next steps in the project to build the Ajapnyak station of the Yerevan Metro. The prime minister stressed the importance of moving to the implementation phase as quickly as possible, Armenpress reports.
“I consider it very important that we finally begin construction of the Ajapnyak metro station. At the same time, I want to say that, contrary to certain impressions, there has been no delay,” Pashinyan said.
According to him, the preparatory stage of the project took a considerable amount of time because Armenia has not carried out a metro construction initiative of this scale for nearly three decades.
“We should also note that we have not implemented a project of this kind for 30 years, and the comprehensive expert review of the project itself took quite a long time.
Now the project is ready for implementation. We must be confident that there is a partner with the necessary expertise to supervise the entire process,” he said.
The prime minister added that the process will then continue with the development of a construction timetable, the selection of a contractor, and the clarification of funding sources and implementation mechanisms.
At the end of December 2025, it was announced that part of the funds allocated for the construction of the Ajapnyak station had been used to purchase 45 new trolleybuses.
On September 18, Tigran Avinyan stated that the Ajapnyak station project had passed all required examinations and that construction work could begin in 2026. Yerevan City Hall first announced plans to develop the metro expansion and new station project in 2018.
