Regardless of who forms the government, the Artsakh issue is not closed and cannot be considered resolved, former Artsakh State Minister Nzhdeh Iskandaryan said in a Facebook post.
He stated that the elections held in Armenia did not take place under conditions that would fully inspire public confidence.
“The electoral process was accompanied by numerous reports of administrative pressure, electoral violations, political persecution, arrests and an atmosphere of fear.
At the same time, these elections highlighted another important issue: tens of thousands of Artsakh Armenians were effectively deprived of the opportunity to participate in the elections. More than 50,000 Artsakh residents who hold the same blue passports and continue to live in the Republic of Armenia were unable to exercise their voting rights due to existing legal regulations.
However, regardless of the election results and regardless of who forms the government, the Artsakh issue and the issue of protecting the rights of Artsakh Armenians are not closed and cannot be considered closed. The collective rights of the displaced population, including the rights to a safe and dignified life, to return to their homeland and to determine their own future, remain on the agenda.
Therefore, maintaining a consistent focus on the Artsakh issue should be the responsibility not only of the authorities but also of all political forces, including the opposition. The Artsakh issue cannot become a topic remembered only during election periods; it requires continuous and systematic work.
At the same time, we must continue discussing and developing mechanisms that will ensure the self-organization and representation of the Artsakh Armenian community. The preservation and consolidation of Artsakh’s state institutions remain important issues. The people of Artsakh must clearly understand that their collective will and representation can also be expressed through organized political and institutional mechanisms, including the holding of relevant electoral processes in the future.
The struggle of the people of Artsakh has not ended. It continues in pursuit of rights, dignity and justice,” he wrote.
According to preliminary data, votes in the elections were distributed as follows: Civil Contract — 49.825 percent, Strong Armenia — 23.281 percent, Armenia Alliance — 9.934 percent, Prosperous Armenia — 3.996 percent. Updated figures indicate that the Prosperous Armenia Party has not passed the electoral threshold, which is 4 percent for parties. The party has requested recounts in several polling stations.
