Ter-Petrosyan did not vote in parliamentary election

Armenia’s first president, Levon Ter-Petrosyan, did not take part in the voting for the National Assembly elections. The information emerged from the signed voter lists published by the Central Electoral Commission, Factor.am reports.

According to the same records, Ter-Petrosyan’s wife, Lyudmila Ter-Petrosyan, and his grandson, Levon Ter-Petrosyan, also did not participate in the vote.

The first president’s spokesman, Arman Musinyan, likewise did not cast a ballot. However, he did not comment on the reasons for his absence from the voting process.

The Armenian National Congress (ANC) participated in the election with a list headed by Levon Zurabyan. However, it is notable that after the ANC had already announced its participation in the election, Levon Ter-Petrosyan publicly expressed support for another political force competing in the vote — the Strong Armenia party led by Samvel Karapetyan.

Ter-Petrosyan had written that “the only force capable of uniting the fragmented opposition is Samvel Karapetyan.”

According to preliminary official data published by the Central Electoral Commission, the Armenian National Congress received 3,206 votes out of 1,476,597 ballots cast in the election.
