Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has filed two separate lawsuits against businessman Samvel Karapetyan and the Strong Armenia party, seeking public retractions of what he describes as defamatory claims and compensation totaling 12 million drams.
In each case, Pashinyan is requesting 6 million drams in damages as well as a public correction of the disputed statements.
The lawsuit against Samvel Karapetyan is based on a statement he made on May 25, alleging that Pashinyan owns a house in Canada, according to Factor.am .
The prime minister has asked the court to require Karapetyan to issue the following public retraction:
“On May 25, 2026, I, Samvel Sargis Karapetyan, disseminated information claiming that Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan owns a house in Canada. I hereby state that this information is entirely defamatory toward Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, false and inconsistent with reality.”
According to the claim, the retraction should be broadcast live through at least three media outlets with a minimum of 200,000 subscribers on YouTube under the title: “Retraction regarding defamatory information about Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan published by me during an interview on May 25, 2026.”
In the lawsuit against the Strong Armenia party, Pashinyan challenges a post published on the party’s page on May 27, which claimed that he intended to bring 300,000 Azerbaijanis to Armenia.
The prime minister is seeking a public statement reading:
“On May 27, 2026, the Strong Armenia party disseminated information claiming that Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan had confirmed that he would bring 300,000 Azerbaijanis to Armenia. We hereby state that this information is entirely defamatory toward Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, false and inconsistent with reality.”
Both lawsuits were filed on June 10. One case was assigned to Judge Anushavan Musheghyan, while the other was assigned to Judge Armenuhi Badryan.
According to preliminary election results, votes were distributed as follows: Civil Contract received 49.825 percent, Strong Armenia 23.281 percent, the Armenia Alliance 9.934 percent, and Prosperous Armenia 3.996 percent. Updated figures indicate that Prosperous Armenia has not crossed the 4 percent threshold required for parties, and the party has requested recounts at several polling stations.
