Tsarukyan announces series of political actions

The Prosperous Armenia Party has called on supporters and concerned citizens to gather outside the Central Electoral Commission (CEC) at 13:00 to voice their protest. The announcement was made by party spokesperson Iveta Tonoyan on Facebook.

“Today at 13:00, we call on all concerned citizens and Prosperous Armenia supporters to gather near the CEC and raise their justified voice of protest against the ongoing injustices and permissiveness. Our citizens are being deprived of their right to freely express their will, and this theft of votes must not go unanswered,” she wrote.

A similar appeal was issued by Prosperous Armenia parliamentary candidate Hrachya Rostomyan.

Tonoyan also announced that before the gathering, at 12:00, a press conference would be held at the party’s information center on Argishti Street 9, where Prosperous Armenia’s next steps would be presented.

Prosperous Armenia leader Gagik Tsarukyan wrote on Facebook that it is evident the election results were annulled specifically in those polling stations where Prosperous Armenia received substantial support.

He stated that Prosperous Armenia is launching a series of actions aimed at defending justice, protecting voters’ interests, and confronting what he described as unlawful actions by the authorities.

“I want to assure you that we will continue to defend your vote of confidence through all means not prohibited by law. This is no longer only an issue for the Prosperous Armenia Party; it concerns the entire post-election development of Armenia and all of us. Our team will work actively today and in the coming days in cooperation with all our opposition partners,” Tsarukyan said.

He noted that Prosperous Armenia entered the election campaign with a representative team and presented voters with its “Proposal for Armenia” program, developed over several months by dozens of specialists.

“Unfortunately, by the fourth or fifth day of the campaign it became clear that the authorities were not interested in a civilized political contest. An ugly, unlawful and immoral campaign was launched against us. Many of our supporters and activists were subjected to criminal prosecution, and arrests were made on fabricated charges. The ruling force conducted a vulgar campaign filled with insults and slander against us.

We decided not to give in to provocations and not to adopt that language or logic. Neither I nor our active team members ever lowered the standards of civilized debate and remained within the framework of political struggle.

Despite all obstacles, pressure, propaganda attacks, a campaign conducted under conditions of absolute inequality, unprecedented use of administrative resources, and enormous pressure on voters, our political force was not broken and received enough votes to enter parliament. At first, our vote totals were technically reduced, and we began a recount process that allowed us to restore the missing votes.

When there was no longer any doubt that Prosperous Armenia would be represented in parliament, the authorities decided to engage in outright abuse. Late in the evening, a CEC session was held behind closed doors, where elections in two polling stations were annulled without scheduling a repeat vote, as required by the Electoral Code.

It is obvious that the elections were annulled precisely in those polling stations where Prosperous Armenia received many votes. At the same time, results were not annulled in polling stations where the elimination of Prosperous Armenia votes could not affect the election outcome,” Tsarukyan wrote.

He thanked all political forces, public figures, and media outlets that had expressed support.

“We are beginning political consultations with political forces to develop a common agenda and coordinated actions.

All the promises and assurances I have given you remain in force. Nothing has changed and nothing will change. I am your Tsarukyan,” the statement said.

On June 11, during an extraordinary session, the CEC invalidated the voting results at polling stations No. 35/65 and No. 10/51. In both cases, voting by military personnel after 20:00 was recorded and considered a violation of the Electoral Code.

Following the CEC decision, Iveta Tonoyan stated: “What took place at the Central Electoral Commission is nothing less than a classic disgrace. This shameful decision, secretly adopted in the middle of the night, was a direct blow against Prosperous Armenia, aimed at preventing the party from entering the National Assembly by any means possible.”
