Strong Armenia has already appealed to the Central Electoral Commission and will subsequently apply to the Constitutional Court with two demands: first, to annul the election results, and second, to order a second round of voting, the alliance’s candidate for prime minister, Samvel Karapetyan, has announced.
“If he is confident that he won, it would be more appropriate to determine through a second round whether he actually won or not,” Karapetyan said, according to Aysor.am.
“We had the opportunity to go all in on the first day, but we did not. We wanted everything to proceed through legal channels,” Karapetyan said, as cited by Panorama.am .
He did not specify what actions he was referring to, stating only that the information is confidential.
Karapetyan also claimed that Nikol Pashinyan did not win the elections and said that both the authorities and the opposition are aware of this.
“Pashinyan did not win the elections. They know it, we know it, and probably the whole world sees it. Based on that, further steps will be taken. If he is confident that he won, then we propose legitimizing all of this and proceeding through the proper process. Armenia must have a legitimate government so that we can develop the country,” he said.
Asked why there has been no street protest movement against the election results, Karapetyan replied: “At first society accepts it, then it does not.”
He added that the issue is not whether to enter parliament but rather how to remove Pashinyan from power.
“He has turned the country into a shop,” Karapetyan said.
According to preliminary data, the votes were distributed as follows: Civil Contract — 49.825 percent, Strong Armenia — 23.281 percent, Hayastan Alliance — 9.934 percent, Prosperous Armenia — 3.996 percent. Under updated figures, Prosperous Armenia does not surpass the 4 percent threshold required for parties to enter parliament and has requested recounts in several polling stations.
Late on June 11, the Central Electoral Commission decided to invalidate the voting results at polling stations No. 10/51 and 35/65. As a result, Prosperous Armenia lost a total of 213 votes, reducing its chances of surpassing the 4 percent threshold needed to enter parliament.
