Prosperous Armenia misses parliament threshold

The Central Electoral Commission (CEC) on the evening of June 14 announced the final results of the regular parliamentary elections held on June 7.

According to the final data, the Prosperous Armenia party failed to clear the 4% electoral threshold and will not enter parliament, receiving 58,287 votes, or 3.9893%.

The Civil Contract party received 726,819 votes, or 49.7456%; Strong Armenia won 340,006 votes, or 23.2710%; and the Armenia Alliance secured 144,983 votes, or 9.9231%.

At the same time as the CEC session, opposition groups were holding a protest. Demonstrators demanded that the election results be annulled and new elections be held, but the request was rejected.

CEC Chairman Vahagn Hovakimyan stated that the decision concerning three polling stations did not affect the outcome of the June 7 elections, Panorama.am reported.

Hovakimyan said: “Declaring the elections invalid at polling stations No. 35/65, No. 10/51, and No. 12/13 does not affect the results of the elections held on June 7.”

Someone in the hall asked what, then, could affect the results if the outcomes from three polling stations had no impact. Hovakimyan urged those present to remain silent and appeal to the Constitutional Court.

Hovakimyan also presented the seat allocation for the three political forces that passed the electoral threshold. Civil Contract will receive 64 seats, including three seats allocated to representatives of national minorities. The Strong Armenia party will receive 29 seats, including one seat for an Assyrian representative, while the Armenia Alliance will receive 12 seats.

The total number of citizens included in the voter lists was 2,503,990. The total number of voters included in supplementary voter lists compiled at polling stations on election day was 1,237. The supplementary list of voters who cast ballots through mobile ballot boxes included 1,300 voters. A total of 410 voters participated through electronic voting. The total number of eligible voters reached 2,506,826.

The number of invalid ballots stood at 16,210. The cumulative number of recorded discrepancies amounted to 4,331.
