Armen Nikoghosyan resigns as FFA vice-president

Armen Nikoghosyan, Vice-President of the Football Federation of Armenia (FFA), has resigned from his position, according to a statement he released.

He will take part in the preparatory work for organizing the FIFA U-20 World Cup.

“At the FFA Assembly held at the end of last year, I announced that I would not run in the 2026 Executive Committee elections and would conclude my tenure as FFA Vice-President. However, several developments have since led me to adjust that decision.

First, the Armenian national futsal team competed in the group stage of the European Championship, an unprecedented achievement for Armenian sport. I wish every sports fan could experience the pride of seeing our country finally stand alongside Europe’s leading teams, as well as the emotions and excitement I felt during those days.

Then an even more significant and, for many, unexpected event took place: together with Georgia, our country secured the right to host the 2029 FIFA U-20 World Cup finals, the world’s second-largest football tournament in terms of significance. To be honest, I never imagined that during my time in office I would be directly involved in events that seemed unattainable not long ago. Yet this is now a reality. We must pursue new goals, and I will participate in the preparations for organizing this tournament. Therefore, I announce my resignation from the position of FFA Vice-President and from membership of the Executive Committee,” the statement said.

Armen Nikoghosyan had served as Vice-President of the Football Federation of Armenia since 2018.
