Investigators have uncovered more than 100 alleged cases of giving and receiving election bribes during investigative actions carried out within a criminal proceeding, the Investigative Committee reported.
According to the committee, evidence has been obtained indicating that A.Y. (Ashot Yeghiazaryan), a parliamentary candidate from the Strong Armenia alliance, allegedly acted in prior agreement with a group of individuals and provided election bribes ranging from 100,000 to 500,000 Armenian drams to more than 100 voters in the Artashat community. The payments were allegedly made in exchange for voting for the Strong Armenia alliance in Armenia’s regular National Assembly elections held on June 7, 2026.
Investigators also allege that, in some cases, the voters acted in groups and, by prior agreement with other voters, received election bribes in varying monetary amounts, reports 1lurer.am .
During the pretrial investigation, the supervising prosecutor initiated public criminal prosecution against candidate A.Y. under Part 2 of Article 219 of the Criminal Code (giving an election bribe) and Point 3 of Part 3 of Article 296 (money laundering on an especially large scale).
Pretrial detention has been imposed as a preventive measure.
The investigation is ongoing.
