
Ruslan Barseghyan, a parliamentary candidate from the Hayastan alliance, has been placed in pretrial detention as a preventive measure. He has been remanded in custody for two months, the Anti-Corruption Committee said, according to Sputnik Armenia.
Another candidate from the same alliance, Asatur Kocharyan, has been placed under house arrest for a period of two months.
On June 17, Armenia’s Central Electoral Commission approved motions submitted by the Prosecutor General’s Office, granting consent to initiate criminal proceedings against the candidates and to deprive them of their liberty. On the same day, the commission also approved motions concerning former Armenian President Robert Kocharyan and David Ghazinyan, a parliamentary candidate from the Strong Armenia alliance. Yesterday morning, it became known that Ghazinyan had been remanded in custody for two months on charges related to preparing election bribery.
