Kocharyan files lawsuit against CEC

Former Armenian President and leader of the Armenia Alliance, Robert Kocharyan, has filed a lawsuit against the Central Electoral Commission (CEC), seeking to challenge one of the commission’s decisions.

According to Pastinfo, the lawsuit most likely concerns the CEC’s June 17 decision granting consent for criminal prosecution against him.

The case has been assigned to Judge Grigor Arakelyan. No decision has yet been issued on whether the court will accept the claim for consideration.

Criminal proceedings against Kocharyan were initiated in connection with a case involving the ratification of a government decision adopted 22 years ago. Specifically, the case concerns a transaction carried out in 2004 and approved by the Armenian government. The decision was never challenged at the time. Years later, after Kocharyan had already left public office, his son Sedrak Kocharyan acquired a stake in the company involved, paying what is described as a substantial sum.

Investigators are now attempting to link that circumstance to the 2004 transaction. The case concerns the territory of the Master Class tennis complex, located next to the Orange Fitness club.
