Armenia’s Anti-Corruption Committee has announced the uncovering of alleged vote-buying schemes as part of a criminal investigation launched on the basis of measures carried out jointly with the National Security Service.

According to the committee, factual evidence was obtained indicating that parliamentary candidates from the Hayastan Alliance, together with supporters of the alliance and other individuals, allegedly provided election bribes of varying amounts to a number of residents of Shirak Province.

Investigators claim the payments were offered in exchange for voting in favor of the alliance in the National Assembly elections and for recruiting individuals willing to vote for the alliance in return for election bribes.

Within the framework of the criminal proceedings initiated over the incident, several individuals have been detained.

Searches and other investigative and procedural actions have also been carried out as part of the case.

Notice: A person accused of a crime is presumed innocent until proven guilty in accordance with the procedures established by the Criminal Procedure Code of the Republic of Armenia and by a court verdict that has entered into legal force.
