Aram Sargsyan, the godson of Strong Armenia party parliamentary candidate Davit Ghazinyan, has been placed in pre-trial detention. The Anti-Corruption Committee said he is involved in the same criminal case as Ghazinyan, Sputnik Armenia reported.

The committee also stated that a total of eight defendants are involved in the criminal proceedings.

Of them, two have been remanded in custody, while three have been placed under house arrest.

“The remaining three defendants have been subjected to preventive measures that do not involve deprivation of liberty,” the committee said.

According to the statement, Aram Sargsyan heads one of the offices of the Strong Armenia party.

Strong Armenia party parliamentary candidate Davit Ghazinyan is being held in custody as part of a case concerning alleged election bribery. Authorities have accused three major opposition forces — the Strong Armenia party, the Hayastan Alliance, and the Prosperous Armenia Party — of distributing election bribes.

Several dozen criminal proceedings have been launched in connection with these cases, and a number of individuals have been detained or arrested. At the same time, opposition forces have accused the authorities of making extensive use of administrative resources during the electoral process.
