Armenia, EU review connectivity cooperation

Armenian Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure David Khudatyan discussed ongoing projects in the transport and energy sectors during a meeting in Brussels with Marta Kos, the European Union Commissioner for Enlargement.

Khudatyan highly praised the European Union’s continued support for Armenia’s reform and development agenda. He also emphasized the new momentum that has emerged within the Armenia-EU partnership, including increased cooperation in the field of connectivity.

Marta Kos congratulated the minister on the convincing victory recorded in the National Assembly elections and added that the European Union’s support for Armenia would continue.

For his part, Khudatyan underscored Armenia’s readiness to further deepen cooperation in the areas of transport, energy and digital connectivity, as well as in implementing inclusive connectivity initiatives.

The sides also discussed other issues of mutual interest.

Earlier, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced that the European Union would provide Armenia with €50 million in immediate assistance. She said she had spoken by phone with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and discussed restrictions imposed on Armenia by Russia.

According to von der Leyen, following Russia’s restrictions on flower imports from Armenia, a new export route had already been arranged. The first shipment of 10,000 flowers was scheduled to arrive in Latvia on June 5, with additional deliveries expected to follow.
