New charges filed against Vardan Ghukasyan

Following a pre-trial investigation conducted by the Serious Crimes Investigation Division of the Yerevan Investigative Department of Armenia's Investigative Committee, investigators say they have obtained prima facie evidence that defendant V.G. (Vardan Ghukasyan) interfered with the lawful official duties of a public official during a court hearing.

According to investigators, immediately after the conclusion of a hearing on May 27, 2026, in a criminal case before the Anti-Corruption Criminal Court, Ghukasyan attempted to answer journalists' questions. Knowing that a police officer of the Ministry of Internal Affairs was performing official escort duties, he allegedly refused to comply with the officer's lawful order to return to the court holding cell designated for detained persons after the hearing, with the aim of obstructing the officer's official duties.

Investigators further allege that when the police officer attempted to escort Ghukasyan, he used force—physical violence—against the officer, thereby interfering with the lawful performance of the public official's duties.

On June 25, 2026, acting on the investigator's motion, the supervising prosecutor initiated public criminal prosecution against Ghukasyan under Part 3 of Article 452 of Armenia's Criminal Code, which concerns interference with the lawful official activities of a public official.

The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
