Armenians maintain favorable EU perception: survey

The results of the 2026 annual public opinion survey in Armenia show that public attitudes toward the European Union remain broadly positive, Armenpress reported.

According to the EU NEIGHBOURS East programme, 72% of respondents described EU-Armenia relations as good, while 56% said they trust the European Union more than any other international actor.

The survey was conducted in February and March 2026 through face-to-face interviews with a representative sample of 1,000 respondents. Since 2016, the annual surveys have been carried out by the EU NEIGHBOURS East programme in Armenia and the other five Eastern Partnership countries.

This year's findings also show that 45% of respondents have a positive image of the European Union, while 30% expressed a neutral opinion, 14% had no opinion, and only 11% reported a negative view.

Economic development (43%) and security (32%) remained the areas in which respondents believe EU support would have the most positive impact.

The European Union was also recognized as an important financial supporter, with 75% of respondents aware of EU assistance provided to Armenia. At the same time, perceptions of that support were mixed: 61% rated EU assistance as high or moderate, while only 17% identified the EU as Armenia's largest donor.

Respondents said they would like the European Union to play a greater role in strengthening the country's defense (25%), education and lifelong learning (23%), as well as agriculture and rural development (19%).
