Iranian vice president visits Armenia

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan received a delegation led by Iranian Vice President Seyed Hamid Pourmohammadi, stressing the importance of strengthening peace and stability in the region and expressing confidence that this would foster the steady development of relations and cooperation across the region.

The two sides also exchanged views on the process of reopening regional transport links and the new opportunities it could create.

Seyed Hamid Pourmohammadi conveyed the warm greetings of Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian to Prime Minister Pashinyan and thanked the Armenian government for its position toward Iran and its humanitarian assistance during a difficult period.

The discussions also focused on progress in implementing projects aimed at developing Armenia–Iran border infrastructure. In particular, the sides reviewed the construction of a second bridge and a new terminal, the continued development of customs cooperation, and issues related to customs procedures. Both sides emphasized the importance of expanding cooperation in the energy sector.

The meeting also covered joint road construction projects, as well as further steps to deepen cooperation in agriculture, mining, infrastructure and other sectors.

At the conclusion of the meeting, Prime Minister Pashinyan conveyed his warm greetings to Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian.

On June 4, Armenia and the United States signed the TRIPP framework agreement in a virtual ceremony. The document was signed on behalf of Armenia by Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan and on behalf of the United States by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
