Karapetyan questions asset seizure plans

Strong Armenia party leader Samvel Karapetyan said the authorities have no means of forcing him out or depriving him of his assets. He made the remarks outside the Anti-Corruption Court after a hearing in his case.

Karapetyan said he could not imagine how Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan intended to strip him of his property, Aysor.am reported.

"I can't imagine it. I think he can't imagine it either. He's just talking," Karapetyan said.

He also said he was not surprised that, in his view, the current authorities had dismissed everything he had done for Armenia and the Armenian people.

"They dismissed what 10 million Armenians have done. Why would they not dismiss what I have done?" he added.

Karapetyan also said he would continue investing in Armenia, Sputnik Armenia reported.

"Of course. Soon we will invite you to the opening of what will probably be Armenia's largest facilities in two very important sectors. This is our country. Pashinyan is just a tourist. Whether he is here or not makes no difference to us. We will continue doing everything we can every day," he said.

On June 26, the Constitutional Court began hearing the consolidated case based on applications filed by seven political forces challenging the results of the June 7 regular parliamentary elections. The proceedings are ongoing.
