Law enforcement authorities are conducting searches at the home of Prosperous Armenia Party chairman Gagik Tsarukyan.
The information was announced by Prosperous Armenia spokesperson Iveta Tonoyan.
“At this moment, a search is being carried out at Gagik Tsarukyan’s home,” she wrote on Facebook.
She said masked officers from the National Security Service (NSS) are not allowing even lawyers to enter Gagik Tsarukyan’s residence.
Large-scale searches are also being conducted at nearly all companies belonging to the Multi Group concern, as well as at the homes of the directors of those companies.
Prosperous Armenia member Arman Abovyan said it has not yet been possible to enter the grounds of Gagik Tsarukyan’s home because armed individuals wearing military uniforms are present there.
On June 9, Tsarukyan was prevented from leaving the country at Zvartnots International Airport. Public criminal prosecution was initiated against him on charges of evading taxes on an especially large scale. According to party press secretary Iveta Tonoyan, Gagik Tsarukyan had a pre-planned two- to three-day trip with his wife and had gone to the airport for that purpose. It later became known that, after criminal proceedings were initiated against him, a written undertaking not to leave the country was imposed as a preventive measure.
On June 25, it became known that a motion had been submitted to the Central Electoral Commission seeking to strip Tsarukyan of his parliamentary immunity. The commission said the request would most likely be considered after July 4.
