Aregnaz Manukyan, a member of the Mother Armenia party and a parliamentary candidate on the Prosperous Armenia Party (BHK) electoral list, has been arrested, the Investigative Committee said, Factor.am reported.
Investigative Committee spokesperson Kima Avdalyan said Manukyan is accused under the article covering the publication of information containing state secrets.
"As part of the criminal proceedings, public criminal prosecution has been initiated against A.M. under Article 427, Part 1 of the Criminal Code (publication of information containing state secrets). He has been detained to be brought before the court," she said.
On June 12, investigators searched the politician's apartment, after which Manukyan was summoned to the Investigative Committee, although no charges were filed at that time.
It later emerged that the investigative measures had been carried out as part of criminal proceedings on charges of treason and espionage connected to Andranik Tevanyan, the second candidate on the BHK electoral list.
According to the charges brought against Tevanyan, he "was recruited by a foreign intelligence service and passed classified information to a representative of a foreign entity in exchange for a large sum of money. The case concerns Russian-language translations of information regarding the course and results of hearings held during a closed, confidential session of the National Assembly in April 2024." The charges against Aregnaz Manukyan are linked to Tevanyan's case.
