Olympic committee backs Tsarukyan

The Armenian National Olympic Committee (ANOC) has expressed its full support for the organization's president, Gagik Tsarukyan, according to a statement released by the committee.

"The entire staff of the Armenian National Olympic Committee expresses its deep concern and full support for the President of the Armenian National Olympic Committee, Mr. Gagik Tsarukyan, and his family.

During these difficult days, we wish Mr. Gagik Tsarukyan a swift return to freedom, and we wish his family strength, resilience, patience and faith to overcome this ordeal," the statement said.

The committee added that its entire staff stands firmly by its president and his family.

The Armenian Boxing Federation and the Armenian Armwrestling Federation have also expressed their support for Gagik Tsarukyan.

From the early morning of July 6, officers of the National Security Service, the State Revenue Committee and the Ministry of Internal Affairs' police carried out simultaneous searches at more than 70 locations, including Tsarukyan's residence and companies linked to him. Tsarukyan was detained. Beginning early on July 7, the Court of First Instance of the Avan and Nor Nork administrative districts examined the request for a preventive measure. By the end of the day, it was announced that he had been remanded in custody for two months.
