A roundtable dedicated to issues related to the new EU Partnership Mission in Armenia was held at Armenia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, bringing together Deputy Foreign Minister Vahan Kostanyan and Stefano Tomat, Civilian Operations Commander and Managing Director of the European External Action Service.
Participants also included Head of the EU Delegation to Armenia Vassilis Maragos and Head of the EU Partnership Mission in Armenia Cosmin Dinescu.
The joint event coincided with the adoption of the European Council's decision to launch the EU Partnership Mission in Armenia.
It was noted that the launch of the EU Partnership Mission marks a new and important chapter in the partnership between Armenia and the European Union. Through this mission, the EU reaffirms its commitment to supporting Armenia's resilience and institutional capacities in the face of evolving challenges.
Through strategic advice, technical expertise and institutional capacity-building, the mission will work closely with Armenian institutions to strengthen policy frameworks, enhance the government's capabilities within its mandate and support interagency coordination.
The event was also attended by representatives of civil society, academia and expert communities, who were introduced to the EU Partnership Mission as a partner supporting the strengthening of Armenia's resilience.
Participants also exchanged views on reinforcing Armenia's resilience against emerging threats, particularly cyber threats, foreign information manipulation and interference, as well as illicit financial flows.
The European Council has approved the deployment of a new Partnership Mission in Armenia under the Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP). The advisory civilian mission is intended to support the Armenian authorities in improving the country's resilience to hybrid threats and strengthening its capacity to address evolving security challenges.
