Armenian representative Elina Avanesyan made a winning start at the WTA 250 tournament in Iasi, Romania, booking her place in the next round.

The 23-year-old faced Japan’s Moyuka Uchijima, ranked 108th in the world, in her opening match and claimed a 6-2, 6-4 victory. The contest lasted one hour and 28 minutes, Factor.am reports.

Avanesyan will meet world No. 45 Petra Marcinko of Croatia in the second round.

Elina Avanesyan began her tournament campaign in qualifying, where she defeated Germany’s Emily Seibold and Romania’s Irina Fetecau. The Armenian tennis player was ranked 224th in the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) standings.
