Armenia has been elected vice-chair of the 2027 session of UNESCO's World Heritage Committee, which is scheduled to be held in Istanbul.

According to Armenia's Permanent Delegation to UNESCO, during the committee session held in Busan, Republic of Korea, from July 19 to 29, Armenia was elected chair of the 2027 session of UNESCO's World Heritage Committee.

Armenia's delegation, a member of the committee, was led by Aram Hakobyan, Armenia's Permanent Representative to UNESCO. The delegation also included officials from the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports, the Ministry of Environment, and national experts.

The Armenian delegation took part in discussions on a number of agenda items, participating in decision-making on the inscription of new cultural and natural sites on the UNESCO World Heritage List, as well as reports on the state of conservation of listed properties.

As a result of the session, 25 new cultural and natural heritage sites were added to the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Armenia's permanent representative also participated in a side event dedicated to the Global Biodiversity Framework, where he presented the priorities of Armenia's presidency for the 17th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the U.N. Convention on Biological Diversity, which is scheduled to take place in Yerevan in October.
