Time is working against Armenia
Joint statement of US, Russian and French Presidents signals the oncoming completion of NKR conflict settlement process, Republican Party Council representative Suren Surenyants told a news conference in Yerevan.
Suren Surenyants said he doesn't understand the surprise of country's political forces, as either forces or the public were not new to Madrid principles' contents.
"Positions of MG OSCE Co-Chairs, especially those of Russia and US, will not give Armenian or Azeri Presidents time to protract the process of agreement conclusion. Both Armenia and Azerbaijan will try to extend the process as each country pursues its own interests," Surenyants said adding that mediators intend to receive some formulation of Madrid principles till the end of year.
"Parties launched eager activities after MG OSCE CO-Chairs' statement," Surenyants noted, recalling recent overaggressive statement made by Ilham Aliyev in London. Surenyants also noted that Armenian authorities did not stay behind by organizing an All Armenian Conference in Stepanakert.
According to him, any conflict settlement principles have their negative aspects and can't be ideal. Still, Madrid principles can serve as a foundation for peaceful settlement of conflict.
"Protracting of conflict settlement process is working against Armenia. 10 years ago we had more favorable conditions for NKR conflict settlement than we do now. Hard to foretell what will happen in 10 years if the conflict remains unsolved," Surenyants emphasized.
