Armenia - Ukraine resistance in FIDE Grand Prix finalized by defeat of Armenian Grandmasters
The 7 tour of the FIDE Grand Prix , held in Jermuk for Armenian grandmaster Levon Aronian and Vladimir Hakobian was again disadvantageous. Both chess players in Black gave way to their Ukrainian rivals Pavel Elyanov and Sergey Karyakin, respectively.
After the second defeat in the tournament Aronian lost the leading position again and with 4 points shares the 4-8 places with Elyanov, Karyakin, Gelfand and Alexeyev. Vladimir Akopian with 2.5 points shares the 11-14 places with Kamsky and Cheparinov.
After 7th rounds the Hungarian grandmaster Peter Leko became the single leader of the tournament with 5 points, winning this round of Bulgarian Ivan Cheparinov. 2-3 places are shared by the Ukrainian Vassily Ivanchuk and Kazakh player Roustam Kasymdzhanov. They have 4.5 points each.
In the 8th round Aronian will play White with Sergei Karyakin, and Vladimir Akopian play White with French Etienne Bacrot.
