Turkey retains its influence on Nagorno Karabakh conflict
"Pre-signed Armenian-Turkish protocols devalue by the fact that Armenia, as these documents testify, took all preconditions of the Turkish side," Levon Zurabyan , coordinator of the Armenian National Congress (ANC) told a press conference in Yerevan today.
According to Levon Zurabyan, through the Armenian-Turkish subcommittee of historians, Turkey will be able to suspend the process of international recognition of the Armenian Genocide, preserving at the same time its influence on the settlement of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict.
"Signing protocols, Turkey has kept its influence on the settlement of the Nagorno Karabakh problem, since these documents must be ratified by the Turkish Parliament. The Turkish parliament could easily delay the ratification process, demanding concessions over Nagorno Karabakh by the Republic of Armenia ," Levon Zurabyan said.
According to him, the protocols are not acceptable, since they clearly stated the principle of territorial integrity and do not specify the principle of nations' self-determination.
Asked what measures ANC will take to suspend the process, he said that on September 18 the Armenian National Congress convenes a meeting, to highlight the details of Congress's future steps.
