Hearings on the situation in the South Caucasus region were held in the National Assembly of Armenia. Secretary of Security Council, defense minister Serge Sargsian stated at the press conference held on completion of the parliamentary hearings that Turkish military presence in Georgia might become reality in the course of time. Turkish troops may substitute the Americans there. In the minister's words, Turkey's penetration into Georgia would be extremely undesirable for Armenia, especially if diplomatic relations with Ankara are not established by that time. At the same time Armenian foreign minister Vardan Oskanian stated Armenian foreign policy course provided for activation of the dialogue with Turkey. "We intend to make efforts to make progress in the relations with Turkey, as the Turkish factor acquires growing significance in the South Caucasus region," - the minister stated.
