Protocols wouldn't be so awful, did they not stipulate for historic committee formation
Armenian Genocide issue is the most complicated one in RA-Turkey relations. Considering this circumstance, the first government of independent Armenia resolved against including issue on international recognition of Genocide in RA external policy agenda, ex-RA FM Vahan Papazyan told a news conference in Yerevan. "Back then, we knew what this would lead to. Turkey would be prompted to undertake counter steps, which is exactly what happened in 1998, after Robert Kocharyan's announcing international recognition of Armenian Genocide to be among priorities in RA external policy," Vahan Papazyan stated, reminding of Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's letter, addressed to RA President, suggesting historic committee formation.

According to ex Foreign Minister, formation of RA-Turkey intergovernmental committee, stipulated by Protocols, is crucial to Ankara. Protocols wouldn't be so awful, did they not stipulate for historic committee formation, he stated. "A single unacceptable stipulation makes the whole document unacceptable. I hope in near future we'll manage to publish the documents on establishment of diplomatic relations with Turkey prepared in the beginning of 90s, so that every one can see the difference between what we could have achieved and what we have now," Vahan Papazyan said.
